FROM PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER TO FARCE, THERE WILL BE

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AT THE DBPH!

Delray Beach, FL:  The Delray Beach Playhouse has a varied, eclectic, and thoroughly entertaining lineup planned for their 2022-2023 season. From musicals to musical comedy, to a myriad of musical memories… not to mention a suspenseful psychological thriller, a classic Neil Simon play, and a British backstage farce.

The Playhouse, which first opened its doors in 1947, has become a beloved fixture in South Florida theatrical community, and boasts large, strong, and supportive membership composed of year-round and seasonal patrons, an excellent roster of local talent both backstage and front of house, and an enthusiastic and committed team of volunteers.

Our lineup is jam-packed with new and exciting shows,” says Kevin Barrett, Delray Beach Playhouse Executive Director, “And there will be something for everyone to enjoy.  We have also made the strategic decision to kick off our season later in the year – in December, rather than October.  It will give our patrons time to become more comfortable returning to the theatre.”

The season will begin with Villainous Company, a suspense-filled thriller by Victor Cahn. The Playhouse’ next production, Something’s Afoot, A Musical Mystery by James McDonald, David Vos, and Robert Gerlach, will be followed by Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite and then by Noises Off a farcical comedy by Michael Frayn.

The Playhouse’ ever-popular Musical Memories Series will feature a celebration of The Songs of
Jule Styne, New York, New York – Broadway Celebrates the Big Apple, From Showboat to Hamilton – Celebrating Broadway’s Landmark Musicals, A Celebration of Fiddler on the Roof, Making Whoopee! Ziegfeld’s “Clown Royal”, Celebrating the Music of Eddie Cantor. Three one-of concerts are also planned: This Land is Your Land – The Life and Song of Woody Guthrie, Remembering Woodstock – Songs from a Seminal Event in an Upstate Pasture, and Bleecker Street and Beyond:  The Greenwich Village Music Scene of the 60s.

Subscriptions are on sale now, and group rates are available for the Main Stage productions as well as the Musical Memories Concerts. Single tickets for productions and concerts will be $42 and will be on sale in August/September.

The “Tale As Old As Time” is reimagined in Area Stage Company’s

immersive production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast!

Area Stage Company is excited to invite you and your family into the enchanted world of Broadway classic Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Every year a whole new generation discovers the magic behind the castle walls, and now you can be our guest at the Arsht Center for an immersive theatrical experience!

Directed by visionary Giancarlo Rodaz, designed by Broadway artists and performed by New York and Miami actors, this much-loved spectacle tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a small, provincial town, and the Beast, a young prince whose lack of compassion has trapped him in a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and to be loved, the spell will be broken and he will be freed from eternal doom.

Brilliantly adapted from the Academy Award-winning animated film, the stage version includes all the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including

the one for best musical, and has been charming international audiences for decades.

Ivan Rutherford has performed the role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables over 2,300 times on Broadway and national tours. He was honoured with the role during the 10th-anniversary company in New York and played alongside Andrea McArdle (original Annie) at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine, and Lea Salonga on Broadway in the 20th anniversary Les Miz revival.

Ivan was also nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Valjean at the First Annual National Broadway Theatre Awards, held at the New York Supper Club in NYC. Some other favourite roles include The Caliph in Kismet, Tony in Westside Story, Lt. Joe Cable in South Pacific (in which he won a Drama-Logue Award) and Officer Charles Lightoller in the Broadway production of Titanic. “More than Broadway” takes the audience on Ivan Rutherford’s personal journey from a small Pennsylvania town to the lead role on Broadway in the world’s most popular musical Les Miserables.

It’s an evening filled with inspirational Standards and Broadway favorites. You’ll hear first-hand accounts of “Broadway Bloopers” and “Shenanigans”... along with some of his most

tender moments in the performance. Together we will share an evening of unforgettable stories, laughter, and music!
